The simplest explanation is that a selfie-stick is a monopod (stick) you attach a smartphone or camera to that allows you to take pictures easily of yourself and friends. A selfie-stick allows greater reach then your arm so you don’t cut anyone out of the picture or the background you want to capture yourself or group of friends in in.
