Jaycee Dugard , who spent 18 years in captivity, is finally speaking out about her ordeal in the pages of People Magazine . The mag, which hits newsstands on Friday, also features the first adult photo of Jaycee Dugard released since she was found. Jaycee’s family has prayed for her return.
They have held vigils and begged for help from the community. Jaycee Lee Dugard and her two children were rescued 18 years after she was kidnapped in South Lake Tahoe at age 11. During the 18 year period her alleged kidnapper, Phillip Garrido fathered her two children, now aged 11 and 15.
Perhaps the death penalty does not apply in kidnapping and rape – although that can take someone’s quality of life away like it did for the victim, but, Phillip and Nancy Garrido took 18 years of this girls life.
Children under the age of 6 are primarily targets of family kidnapping, which peaks at about age 2 and declines thereafter. The risk of kidnapping by a stranger is comparatively low for preschoolers but rises throughout the elementary school years and reaches its peak around age 15. Children of middle-class or upper-class Mexicans, yet the problem does span all socio-economic levels, are too often stolen away from their families and homes. Kidnappers can work in sophisticated groups, following family members to learn routines or working with the help of hired domestic employees. Children should make a deal with their parents that they’d never call from an ATM. If they do, it’s likely they’re in a heist — and the red flag has been raised.
