Bluetooth hearing aids can transmit sounds from Bluetooth-enabled devices such as cell phones, car stereos and more. A Bluetooth hearing aid is able to recognize a signal that is broadcast from the Bluetooth device and transmit the sound directly to your ears. This means that if you have a Bluetooth-enabled hearing aid you don’t have to hold a phone to your ear in order to hear the conversation. Sound quality is often better, too. Connecting your Bluetooth hearing aids to these devices is quite simple. The first step is for your Audiologist to pair the hearing aids to the gateway. Typically this is done by connecting the hearing aids and the gateway to a computer in our office. Once this is completed, the user can then pair their cell phone, MP3 player, etc. to the gateway unit. This can be as simple as pressing a button on the gateway and entering an access code.
The smallest Bluetooth device currently available is the Bluetooth Ear Level Instrument. It has been designed to transform traditional behind the ear hearing aids into Bluetooth hearing aids, created so that the hearing impaired can enjoy crystal clear mobile phone transmissions. The Bluetooth hearing aids also allow their user’s wireless access to MP3s, computers, and High Definition Televisions. This is created so that they can have their hands free to perform other tasks while they are using those items.
By enabling the Bluetooth connection on the hearing aids, you can pair up the device with a mobile phone, a home phone, a TV, a radio, an Apple iPod or any other MP3 player or any other device that is able to connect to a Bluetooth network. This will give the wearer of the Bluetooth hearing aids access to the device that is generating the audio (signal) and they will be able to hear that audio (signal) straight through on their hearing aids. Hearing aid manufacturers are now looking at bluetooth designs and technology as a way to improve how hearing aids not only look but feel. The bluetooth technology works by letting your hearing aids communicate with each other, which allows you to listen to music without the need for headphones, and also it allows you to make calls and not have to hold the phone to your ear. Bluetooth hearing aids are something you should consider if you are embarrassed by the big bulky traditional hearing aids.
