With all the hidden cameras to choose from why would you want to build your own hidden camera?
There are many reasons you’d want to built your own hidden camera. Some of which include the following.
1) You have employee’s working in your restaurant and you don’t want any suspicious looking device showing up next to the cash register.
2) You have a cabin or second home that is unoccupied for long periods of time and you don’t want your hidden camera stolen or ruined by thieves or vandals.
3) You have a business and you want to spy on employees very covertly.
4) Your a peeping tom and want to watch your spouse or girlfriend in the bathroom or bedroom.
5) You just want the best plain non visible way to watch your nanny or caregiver without and visible signs of a hidden cam for totally covert surveillance.
First of all, lenses in board cameras are pre-mounted and have a fixed iris. In most cases they have a short focal length (the distance between the surface of the lens and it’s focal point) which results in a wide angle of view. Our board cameras have a lens between 3.6 and 6mm.
Because board cameras have some many fixed features they are limited to what they can be used for. However, they offer a low cost solution to security needs especially hidden camera situations.
So here is how you go about building your own hidden spy camera?
1) Buy a board camera. Here are three good ones we recommend. The last one is low light and is better suited to all condition including near darkness.
Flat Lens Board Camera

Cone Lens Board Camera

2) Mount the board camera in an object like a bird house where no one will tamper with it or in the wall whether it be wood or plasterboard. All you need to do is put a small pinhole where the camera lens will view out of and mount the board using 4 small wood screws. You may also have to carve out a small 1″ x 1″ space in the wall or ceiling to recessed to camera into.
3) Run power to the hidden board camera. All hidden cameras shown above run on 12V, 150mA power consumption and are easily plugged into an electrical outlet to power them. Simply drill a hole on the other side of where you mount the camera and plug the 12 volt adapter into the outlet.
4) All hidden board cameras about are plug and play where you can plug the video cable into a VCR or DVD recorder to record you surveillance video. Or you can use the following Portable DVD Recorder PV-800 that will not only record your hidden surveillance videos but also power the hidden camera. It has a 12V cable that will supply power to the camera.
All the steps described above are easy to to but if you have any problems, you can always look in your local newspaper and call a handyman and there are plenty of them out there. Have him look over these instructions and install 1 or more cover hidden cams in your wall or ceiling.
