Car vandals can be ruthless to the point of even breaking into your car as it sits in your driveway with you in the house. These young would-be thieves were caught on tape and arrested, thanks to a few strategically placed inexpensive cameras.
Michael Cole owns four Xcams, that he purchased a couple of years ago. He moved into a house last August of 2005 in a run down part of a college town in Kansas called Lawrence.
Late one night, as Michael was laying on the couch, he heard some noise outside of his kitchen window. He simply clicked the button on his XCam’s remote to switch to his porch cam. He listened for a few seconds through its intensely accurate sensitive microphone, he could hear something on the side of his house.
He then switched to his side camera, which has no sound and could plainly see two young punks in his car, one in each seat. He didn’t have the night vision cameras and just had the porch lights on, but even with only a small amount of light was enough to see people clearly even in the dark. He could tell these were guys he didn’t recognize.
Michael called 911 and told them what was happening and stepped outside, placing himself in between my car and theirs, which was parked on the street. He yelled at both punks to get out of his car and lay down on the ground and freeze. They looked like they were about to run off, so he yelled out that he had security cameras around his house, and had them both on videotape. He saw one kid who was sitting in the passenger seat look over his shoulder, and he could plainly see the camera on the side of his house.
After alerting the police (they literally showed up within a couple minutes) they were very impressed with the security that the X10 cams afforded Michael. In his car, they had just removed a Pioneer CD/DVD unit worth upwards of $500 from his dash. The interior of the car was wired with all kinds of lighting, which they were attempting to remove. They had already opened his trunk, with the intention of stealing another $1500 worth of audio equipment which consisted of two amplifiers, three 12″ subwoofers, and an equalizer.
Michael provided the police with his recording made with his cameras in which the lawyers for the two would-be thieves, after reviewing the video’s, decided it would be in their best interest to just plead guilty to the charges.
Michael easily saved couple thousand worth of loss through theft for simply installing a couple hundred dollars worth of surveillance cameras around his house with are still working for him every day to protect his home and automobiles!!!
